Thomas Eastchurch

Thomas Eastchurch (? - January, 1678) was the governor of Albemarle County, North Carolina between 1675 and 1676. During this period, he imprisoned the former governor John Jenkins for various offenses. Later, John Jenkins was released from prison with aid of his supporters and returned as governor in the spring of 1676. The Lord's Proprietors appointed Eastchurch as governor again, and he explained the situation in London to them. In 1677, during his absence (departed from London to Nevis Island), he was substituted by his fellow proprietary Thomas Miller as acting governor, whose crimes caused a revolt that caused that when Eastchurch returned to Albemarle could not recover the government. In addition, the Anti- Proprietors leaders decided to send an army to the northern part of the Albemarle County to prevent to the new governor the access to Albemarle and although Eastchurch sough aid to invade the county, never got it, so he did not return to government of Albemarle after spring 1676.
